FHE Soccer Alumni Update 9/12/11

Zac Tolsma (’08), Senior at Cornerstone University (NAIA) 

Zac's Golden Eagles have posted a 2-3-0 overall record.  He has started 4 games and has tallied 3 shots at goal.  Cornerstone plays a home game on Tuesday, Sept 13.

Heidi DeVries (’08), Senior at Cornerstone University (NAIA)

Heidi's team has started the season at 1-3-1.  Cornerstone plays its next home game on Saturday, Sept 17.

Zach Myers (’09) and Ben Thomas (’10), Saginaw Valley State University (NCAA Division II)

Zach and Ben's squad has started its season at 3-0-0.  Zach has been playing center back and has tallied 2 shots.  Ben scored his first goal for SVSU in their match v. Marygrove.  They return to Grand Rapids on Sunday, Sept 25 for a game at Davenport University.

Caitlin McCarthy (’09), Junior at Kalamazoo College (NCAA Division III)

Ceejay's Hornets team have begun their season at 1-2-0.  After a roadtrip, K-Zoo plays home games on Wednesday, Sept 14 and Saturday, Sept 17.

Kyle Haverkate (’10), Sophomore at Aquinas College (NAIA)

Kyle's Saints have begun the season 5-1-0.  Kyle has started all 6 games and has recorded 1 assist from his defensive position.  Aquinas plays home games this week on Wednesday, Sept 14 and Sunday, Sept 18.

Ann Kennedy (’10), Sophomore at Alma College (NCAA Division III)

Ann's Scots have put together a 4-0-0 start to the season.  Ann had a great week last week, being honored as the MIAA Conference's Defensive Player of the Week.  Alma will play in Grand Rapids, at Calvin College, on Tuesday, Sept 20.

Lawrence Murray (’10), Sophomore at Calvin College (NCAA Division III)

Lawrence's Knights are off to a 2-2-0 start to their season and he has started all 4 games.  Lawrence plays three home games this week:  Tuesday (Sept 13), Friday (Sept 16), and Saturday (Sept 17).

Fred Smyser (’10), Sophomore at Olivet College (NCAA Division III)

Fred's Comets team are off to a 3-0-1 start.  Fred has been named one of the team captains and has recorded a goal and an assist in his 4 starts.

Michelle Marcus (’10), Sophomore at Grand Valley State University (NCAA Division II)   

Meesh is the backup goalkeeper for the Lakers, who have begun their National Title defense with a 1-0-2 record.  The Lakers play home games in Allendale on Friday, Sept 16 and Sunday, Sept 18.

Graham Wallace (’10), Sophomore at Alma College (NCAA Division III) 

The Scots have begun their season with a 2-1-0 record and Graham has started 2 games, recording 1 shutout.

Kaitlin Teichman (’10), Sophomore at Saint Mary’s College (NCAA Division III)

Teich's Belles have started quickly, compiling a 4-0-0 record.  She has been starting the majority of games and has recorded one assist.  The Belles come to Grand Rapids for a game on Wednesday, Sept 28 at Calvin College.

Jon DeVries (’11) and Brandon Underwood (’11), Freshmen at Hope College (NCAA Division III)

The Flying Dutchmen have started with a 2-1-1 record.  Brandon has appeared in all 4 matches and had 2 shots on goal in those appearances.  Jon is in a developmental role with the team.  Jon and Brandon will travel to Calvin on Wednesday, Sept 21 to face-off with Lawrence and his Knights in the long-running rivalry.

Bailey Henderson (’11) and current FHE JV Girls Coach Cat Howard are teammates at Davenport University (NAIA).  

Bailey & Cat's Davenport team has begun the season at 5-2-0.  Cat has played the bulk of the team's minutes in the role of starting goalkeeper, including having been named the WHAC Conference Defensive Player of the Week last week.  Bailey has been redshirted for her Freshman year.

Mitchal Rosendall (’11) , Freshman at Western Michigan University (NCAA Division I)

Mitch's Broncos have gotten off to a 1-4-1 start to the season.  WMU plays home games in Kalamazoo this Friday, Sept 16 and Sunday, Sept 18.

FHE Soccer Alumnus Honored By MIAA

FHE Soccer Alumnus Ann Kennedy ('10), a sophomore at Alma College, has been named the MIAA Conference's Defensive Player of the Week in women's soccer. 

Defensive Player of the Week
Alma defender Ann Kennedy, a sophomore from Grand Rapids (Forest Hills Eastern HS), led the Alma defense with her dominant play in the air and timely tackles as the Scots opened the season with consecutive shutout wins, 2-0 over North Park, Ill. and 2-0 over Aurora, Ill. She also set up the Scots’ second goal against Aurora with a corner kick. Kennedy is being honored as Player of the Week for the first time in her career.

FHE Soccer Alumni Update 8-29-11

Zac Tolsma (’08) kicks off his Senior season at Cornerstone University (NAIA) with a roadtrip to Hawaii!  The Golden Eagles play 3 games on the islands (8/30 vs University of Hawaii-Hilo, 9/2 vs BYU-Hawaii, and 9/4 vs Chaminade.

 

Heidi DeVries (’08) is also a Senior at Cornerstone University (NAIA).  Heidi’s team started the season with a 3-0 win over Missouri Baptist, followed by a 1-0 loss at Olivet Nazarene, ranked #17 in the nation.  Cornerstone plays its first home game of the season on 9/3 at 3pm vs St Francis (IN).

 

Zach Myers (’09) and Ben Thomas (’10) are teammates at Saginaw Valley State University (NCAA Division II).  Recently, they returned to FHE for a scrimmage with Olivet Nazarene, in which both played well in the back for the Cardinals.  SVSU opens its season on 9/1 at Lewis and 9/3 at St Joseph’s (IN).

 

Caitlin McCarthy (’09) is a Junior at Kalamazoo College (NCAA Division III).  K-Zoo is ranked #3 in the preseason MIAA poll.  The Hornets open their season on 9/1 at Chicago and 9/4 at Elmhurst (IL).

 

Kyle Haverkate (’10) is a Sophomore at Aquinas College (NAIA).  Aquinas began its season with a 3-0 win over Goshen.  The Saints host a strong St Xavier team on Wednesday 8/31 at 4pm before travelling to Indiana this weekend for a pair of away games.

 

Ann Kennedy (’10) is a Sophomore at Alma College (NCAA Division III).  Ann and her teammates enter the season ranked as the favorites to win the MIAA Conference.  The Scots open play on 9/3 at North Park (IL) at 2pm followed by a game at Aurora (IL) on 9/4 at 3pm.

 

Lawrence Murray (’10) is a Sophomore at Calvin College (NCAA Division III).  The Knights are looking to build on last year’s MIAA Championship followed by a trip to the NCAA Elite 8.  Lawrence & Company open the season on 9/1 at Rochester (NY) and 9/3 at St. John’s.

 

Fred Smyser (’10) is a Sophomore at Olivet College (NCAA Division III).  The Comets were picked #3 in the MIAA Preseason Poll.  Olivet opens on 9/1 at Anderson (IN) and 9/6 at Elmhurst (IL).

 

Michelle Marcus (’10) is a Sophomore goalkeeper at Grand Valley State University, the reigning National Champs of NCAA Division II.  The Lakers open their campaign on 9/2 at Winona State (MN) and 9/4 at Minnesota State-Mankato.

 

Graham Wallace (’10) is a Sophomore goalkeeper at Alma College (NCAA Division III).  Graham started 5 games as a freshman.  The Scots open play on 9/1 at home versus Holy Cross at 4pm.

 

Kaitlin Teichman (’10) is a Sophomore at Saint Mary’s College (IN) (NCAA Division III).  The Belles open play at the Defiance Classic (OH) on 9/2 versus Defiance and 9/3 versus Thiel.  St. Mary’s plays its home opener on 9/6 versus Manchester.

 

Jon DeVries (’11) and Brandon Underwood (’11) are freshman teammates at Hope College (NCAA Division III).  Hope has been named the favorite to win the MIAA Conference in the preseason poll.  The Flying Dutchmen open 9/2 at Denison and 9/3 at Kenyon College.

 

Bailey Henderson (’11) and current FHE JV Girls Coach Cat Howard are teammates at Davenport University (NAIA).  Davenport has been busy already, compiling a 2-1 record after two wins on the road trip to North Carolina and a home loss to highly-ranked Trinity Christian (NAIA).  The Panthers play home games on 9/2 at 8pm versus St Francis (IN) and 9/4 at 4pm versus Illinois Institute of Technology.

 

Mitchal Rosendall (’11) is our first FHE soccer alumnus to play at the NCAA Division I level.  He and his WMU Bronco teammates opened play on 8/27 with a 3-1 loss to Cincinnati.  WMU was picked to finish 3rd in the MAC in the preseason poll.  They resume play on 9/2 at Marquette and 9/4 at University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

FHE SOCCER ALUMNI UPDATE - 11/1/2011

 

Zac Tolsma (’08), Senior at Cornerstone University (NAIA) 

After a slow 2-5-0 start, the Golden Eagles have won 9 of their last 10 games and captured the WHAC Conference Regular Season Championship and Honorable Mention in the NAIA National Rankings.  Zac has been a mainstay in the Cornerstone lineup and will play his next game on Saturday, November 9 in the WHAC Tournament Semis.

The Calvin Knights are currently ranked #16 in the National Rankings and have compiled a record of 14-4-1 to go with a First Place finish in the MIAA Regular Season.  Lawrence has started every game for his team and has 1 assist from his Center Back position.  Lawrence will play former FHE teammate Graham Wallace (Alma) on Wednesday, Nov 2 in the MIAA tournament.

Fred Smyser (’10), Sophomore at Olivet College (NCAA Division III)

Freddy’s Comets are 12-6-1 on the season and finished the MIAA Regular Season in 4th Place.  A Team Captain as a Sophomore, Fred has started every game for Olivet and has recorded 4 goals and 3 assists on the season.  The Comets face off with Adrian College on Wednesday, Nov 2.

Graham Wallace (’10), Sophomore at Alma College (NCAA Division III)

The Scots stand at 5-11-2 on the season.  Graham has started 13 games, recorded 1,156 minutes, 84 saves, and 4 shutouts.  The Scots play Lawrence Murray and his Calvin College Knights in the MIAA tournament on Wednesday, Nov 2.

Kaitlin Teichman (’10), Sophomore at Saint Mary’s College (NCAA Division III)

Teich's Belles put together a 10-10-0 record.  She was been a mainstay in the St Mary’s lineup and has recorded a goal and two assists.  The team showed marked improvement going from 3-16-0 overall in 2010.

Tryout Dates
