Monday's OK Gold Conference Tournament Semifinal was not for the faint of heart.

The Hawks visited Caledonia looking to avenge their 1-0 loss just 12 days earlier, and at the outset, everything was going FHE's way.

Sophomore Matt DeVries chipped a beautiful ball over the Cal defense onto the feet of a streaking Brandon Underwood, who would calmly finish his 1v1 with the goalkeeper just 8 minutes into the match.

Both teams played an even game until Underwood struck again in the 30th minute.  He received the ball about 35 yards from the Caledonia goal and made a quick turn:  when his defender sat back and allowed him the space, Underwood ripped a shot from distance that suprised the goalkeeper and ended up in the upper corner of the goal.

After taking the 2-0 lead into the halftime break, the Hawks were determined to score that all-important third goal of the match.  Sophomore Colton Johnson beat his defender to the end line and slotted a ball back to Alex Harrison, who pinged the ball into the upper corner of the Caledonia goal just 2:55 into the second half.

Caledonia kept their composure and stepped up their play, seizing the momentum back from the Hawks just minutes later when they swung a corner kick into the box.  A Hawks defender failed to clear the ball after getting a head on the ball, and after a mad scramble in the box, the ball trickled over the goalline to make the score 3-1.

The Scots continued to pressure and in the 62nd minute, got to the endline and slotted a ball back to a Cal midfielder, who ran on to the ball and hit a one-touch rocket from 20 yards that took a deflection off a Hawks defender and ended up in the net.

With the momentum now fully-swung in the Scots' favor, the Hawks again turned to Senior Captain Brandon Underwood to provide a lift.  In a near re-enactment of his second goal, Underwood received and turned in one smooth motion about 40 yards out.  Given a little bit of space, he struck a prefect shot that knuckled and danced its way through traffic and onto the Caledonia goalkeeper, who struggled with the movement of the ball and deflected the shot into his net.

Down by a score of 4-2, Caledonia again worked to apply continuous pressure on the Hawks' defense.  In the 72nd minute, Cal swung another corner kick into the box and onto the head of a forward who headed the ball through a crowd of players at the far post and into the net.

The Hawks clung to the 4-3 lead as the final 8 minutes slowly ticked off the scoreboard.  Underwood made several fantastic runs to the corner flags and shielded off multiple defenders, taking time off the clock and forcing two corner kicks.  After one last desperate attack was thwarted by the Hawks defense, the final whistle blew.

The 4-3 victory moves the Hawks to 10-4-3 on the season and into the Conference Tournament Final on Wednesday.  Wednesday's game will be at South Christian, which plays their games at their athletic complex on Kalamazoo Ave SE, about a mile South of 76th Street.  JV is at 5pm and Varsity kicks off 20 minutes after the JV game.
