In-district rival FHN visited Hawk Country on a rainy Saturday afternoon in a matchup of highly-ranked soccer teams.  FHE entered the contest ranked #9 in the state while FHN was an honorable mention in Division 2.

The two teams played to a 0-0 deadlock through much of the first half, with both teams creating scoring opportunities but unable to finish.  With just under 2 minutes left in the half, the ball ran over the endline for a Hawks corner kick.  Sophomore Matt DeVries lofted a beautiful ball to the head of his brother, Senior Jon DeVries, who found the back of the net to send the Hawks into the halftime break with a 1-0 lead.

The Huskies turned the tide as the second half progressed, winning the battle in the air and running the offside trap effectively.  Midway through the half, a Huskie midfielder struck a shot tfrom distance that caromed off the far post and landed directly on the foot of an open FHN forward who finished his shot uncontested.

With about 10 minutes remaining, the Huskie goalkeeper made the play of the match.  FHE's Mitchal Rosendall made a deft touch on the ball, lofting it over the goalkeeper who was well off his line, but the keeper shifted his balance, pushed back towards his goal and went full-extension to tip the ball over his bar and preserve the 1-1 tie.

The Hawks move to 4-1-1 on the season and will have a busy week next week with games versus Wayland (Home Tuesday, 6:45pm), Ottawa Hills (Away Thursday, 5pm), and Portage Central (Home Saturday, 1pm).
