The FHE Soccer team travelled to West Catholic in search of the program's 100th win.
After a 12-day layoff, the Hawks took a little while to shake off the rust. FHE applied early pressure, but failed to finish until Senior Mitchal Rosendall made a turn at the corner of the six-yard box and finished to the near post in the 8th minute.
The Falcons of West Catholic displayed a workhorse style of play, seeking to transition quickly after collapsing defensively, and nearly converted a couple of counter-attacks. But it was Senior forward Brandon Underwood who would receive a diagonal through-ball from Matt DeVries and bury a shot to the far bar, putting the Hawks up 2-0 at the half.
The Hawks came out with good energy in the 2nd Half as Alex Harrison worked hard and created numerous opportunities on combinations with Rosendall and Underwood. Finally, Senior Ryan Austin received a ball from Rosendall, made a fantastic turn at the 12, and finished past the Falcon keeper in the 53rd minute.
The game then became a messy, foul-filled affair. In the end, the two teams combined for 35 fouls, 7 yellow cards, and a red card for the game.
Defenders Ryan Scott, Nick Richard, Grant Young, along with Goalkeepers Kip Forness and Nick Hopkins, combined for the shutout.
The Hawks move to 3-1-0 on the season and 100-35-8 (.741) in its history. FHE will face Hastings in its conference opener at home on Thursday.
