FHE Soccer suffered its worst home defeat in five years, falling to OK Gold rival South Christian by a score of 4-0 on Tuesday night.

The Hawks had the first chance of the match, as Senior Mitchal Rosendall made a deft touch and struck a shot from distance, appearing to have chipped the South goalkeeper.  Goalkeeper Aaron Bosch made a fantastic save with a backward dive to touch the ball over his bar.

Just minutes later, South capitalized on a long throw-in to the top of the box.  It was flicked on by a South Christian attacker as Hawks goalkeeper Kip Forness came off his line in an attempt to punch the ball away, and Dan Miedema finished into an empty net in the 20th minute.

In the 36th minute, the Hawks allowed a pass to roll the length of the 6-yard box to a wide-open Blake DeVries, who put South Christian up by a score of 2-0.

The Hawks came out flat in the second half, allowing a goal just 2:43 into the half, as Drew Lockwood beat several lunging Hawk defenders and finished his chance.

The final goal was scored in the 61st minute with the Hawks pushing players forward into the attack.  Dan Miedema beat a Hawk defender on the wing and walked in on goal, finishing a 1v1 with the goalkeeper.

FHE finished with 17 shots at goal, though just 3 of those opportunites made it on goal, as the Hawks shot from distance and struggled with accuracy.  By contrast, South tallied 12 shots at goal, with 8 of those on goal.

FHE Soccer moves to 6-2-2 on the season and will face non-conference foe Calvin Christian in an away game on Saturday.  Calvin Christian plays its home games on the Northwest corner of Ivanrest and 44th Street in Grandville.  The Knights hold the advantage in the series history, having won 6 of the 9 matches.
