The first game of the season featured the Zeeland East Chix hosting the Hawks. Zeeland beat FHE at the Hawks home field last year on their way to a Final 4 season in Division 3. FHE was looking to get revenge.
After both teams were stopped on their first drives, FHE mounted a couple first downs, but a fumble and ensuing touchdown return had Zeeland up 6-0.
The Hawks got on the board after a 38 yard kick return by Jon McCready, Joe Stankowski threw a 61 yard bomb to Quinton Morrow and at halftime, FHE was only down 20-7.
Penalties and another turnover doomed the Hawks and they went on to lose 30-7.
