The Hawks soccer team defeated the Wayland Wildcats in a conference matchup on Monday night.  The score was a touchdown to a field goal.

Senior Caitlyn Przybysz opened the scoring with a clever outside of the foot flick just 2:28 into the match, following a corner kick by Layne Vandenberg.

The Wildcats settled in defensively, seeking out counter-attacking opportunities, and held firm until FHE's Jessie Fatum buried a shot in the 18th minute on a Morgan Behm assist.

In the 27th minute, set-up by Layne Vandenberg and Megan Hollingsworth, Jenna Winkel got into the scoring column for FHE as she attacked 1v1 at speed toward the Wildcat goal and calmly finished.

Vandenberg again was the catalyst for FHE's next goal, finding Fatum behind the Wayland defense for a 1v1 opportunity with the goalkeeper in the 36th minute.  Fatum finished, putting the Hawks up by a score of 4-0 at intermission.

Just 1:49 into the second half, Winkel beat the goalkeeper and Fatum swooped in to complete her hat-trick and put the Hawks up 5-0.

Wayland countered 7 minutes later on a sublime service to the far post, where Abby Tobolic finished a brilliant header.

The ebb and flow produced opportunities for both teams over the next 10 minutes, but it was FHE's Vandenberg who capitalized on a chip over the head of the Wayland keeper, increasing the Hawks' lead to 6-1.

Wayland's Stacy Snyder found the Eastern net just two minutes later and was followed in the scoring by teammate Ashley Wrobeleski, cutting FHE's lead to 6-3 with just under 10 minutes remaining.

FHE's Vandenberg put the game on ice in the 77th minute, completing the scoring in a 7-3 victory for FHE.

The Hawks move to 3-4-0 on the season and 2-0-0 in OK Gold play.

The JV Hawks won the matinee game 3-0.
