The Hawks opened the OK Gold Conference campaign with a 4-0 victory over visiting Hastings on a frigid Wednesday night. 

Sophomore Jenna Winkel opened the scoring for FHE following a brilliant attack up the right flank by Seniors Kristi Myers and Caitlyn Przybysz.

Layne Vandenberg scored her first goal of the season a few minutes later on an assist by Jessie Fatum.

Holding a 2-0 advantage at the halftime break, the Hawks got out of the gate early in the second half as Fatum scored her 4th goal of the season in the 42nd minute on an assist by Vandenberg.

Vandenberg again made her mark on the game in the 65th minute, swerving a corner kick in for her second goal of the match.

The FHE shutout was preserved in the 75th minute as goalkeeper Erin Pupel, presumably frozen solid, came off her line and made a brilliant save on a 1v1 breakaway.  It was Pupel's first career shutout for the Hawks.

The JV Hawks played solidly but fell by a score of 1-0 in the matinee game. 

FHE (1-4) will host Byron Center (4-1) in a first-ever meeting between the two schools on Friday night.  Kickoff is at 6:45pm.
