Apr 13, 2011
Score
HAWKS: 1
EAST KENTWOOD: 3

In its first game back from Spring Break, the FHE Soccer team met up with perennial soccer power East Kentwood.

The Hawks played strongly to open the game, applying loads of pressure on the Falcons' defense.  Sophomore midfielder Jaclyn Goble was denied by the EK goalkeeper after a beautiful attack resulted in a shot from 12 yards out.

Minutes later, East Kentwood counter-attacked and lofted a shot from 30 yards that found its way over the goalkeeper and into the FHE net, resulting in a 1-0 lead, a score that would stand at halftime.

In the 49th minute, EK again got on the board, as 1st Team All-State player Casey McMillan ran onto a through ball.  She made a fantastic cut-back at the 18 and ripped a shot into the upper right corner of the Hawks goal.

In the 67th minute, East Kentwood received a generous free kick at the top of the Hawks' penalty area, and it was McMillan again who finished to put EK up by a score of 3-0.

With 4 seconds remaining in the half, Freshman Emily Smithson scored her first career goal, finishing a shot over the head of the EK goalkeeper.

Final statistics:  Shots At Goal:  EK 15, FHE 7.  Corner Kicks:  EK 5, FHE 4.  Fouls:  EK 12, FHE 12.  Offside:  EK 1, FHE 0.

The loss sends FHE to an 0-3 record.  The team will host former long-time conference rival Coopersville (3-2) in a match on April 15.
