The FHE Girls Soccer Team kicked off its 2011 season with a home game versus Grandville, the first-ever meeting between the two programs.

The Hawks came out of the gate quickly, controlling possession for the better part of the first 15 minutes, but were unable to finish its chances.

Grandville got on the scoreboard first in the 18th minute, as a through ball was played into the space behind the Hawks' defense and was beautifully finished to the far post.

FHE's defense played stoutly and repelled repeated waves of Grandville attacks and several outstanding saves were made by Freshman goalkeeper Erin Pupel, who finished her first Varsity game with 8 saves.

The Bulldogs found the back of the net again in the 64th minute on a slotted ball played across the 6 to go up by a score of 2-0.

With 45 seconds left in the game, Sophomore Jenna Winkel chased down a ball in the corner that appeared to be running harmlessly out of play.  She beat a defender and played a beautiful slotted ball to the foot of Jessie Fatum, who calmly finished a one-touch shot from 6 yards out.

The Hawks pushed forward desperately in an attempt to tie the game, but several good attacks were thwarted as time expired.
