Game Recap

In the district semi-final the Forest Hills Eastern Hawks battled the Comstock Park Panthers. These two teams have in the past as the Panthers beat the Hawks in 2013 to knock the Hawks of of the tournament. This time around however it would be Eastern getting the upper hand. The Hawks jumped out early and never looked back. They lead by 13 at the half and then scored 27 points in a big 4th quarter to put the game away down the stretch. The Hawks shot 15/16=94% from the line on the game and were a perfect 13/13 in the 4th quarter.

The Hawks were lead by Connor Culhane scoring 20 points off the Eastern bench. Chase Krueger added 12 points. Stevie Harvey had 10 points and Devon Reininger had 10 points and dished out 6 assists as well. The panthers were lead by Lake Serba with 19 points. Andrew Taylor added 13 points and David Oele contributed 12 as the Panthers season came to a close.

The Hawks move on to the district final game vs. the West Catholic Falcons. The Hawks and Falcons played earlier this season and with the Falcons taking the win on their home court in overtime. Eastern will look to exact some revenge on West Catholic and grab their first ever district crown on Friday night. The game will be played at Comstock Park high school and starts at 7:00 pm. Come out and cheer on your Hawks in their biggest game of the year.

Game Recap

The Eastern Hawks battled the league leading Northview Wildcats in an OK Bronze contest on Friday night. It was senior night for the Hawks. Eastern started out slow and only managed one bucket to fall behind 9-2 after the first quarter. But they battled back to trail only 21-20 at the half. The Hawks also won the 3rd quarter and lead 41-40 after 3 quarters of play. But the Wildcats showed why they are leading the OK Bronze conference as they pulled away down the stretch and won 63-59.

Eastern was lead in scoring by Steven Harvey with 17 points. Devon Reininger added 10 points and also had 5 rebounds. Eddie Ortiz got his first start on senior night and knocked down two 3-pointers to score 6 points.

Northview was lead by Conner Crawford with 26 points. Devon Houston added 18 and Gabe Baric scored 17 for Wildcats.

Eastern finiahes the season next week with two home games on Tuesday against Greenville and then on Thursday against a high powered Wayland ball club. The following week the Hawks travel to Comstock Park for district play.

On a frigid Friday night at Forest Hills Eastern the Hawks battled the Wyoming Wolves in a OK Bronze tilt. The Hawks ran out early and started fast taking a 18-8 lead after the 1st quarter. The Wolves battled back in the 2nd period to cut into the Hawks lead. The Hawks still lead at the half 26-22.

In the 3rd period the Hawks maintained their lead and managed to stretch it out to 42-37. But the 4th quarter would belong to the Wolves as the clawed their way back into the ballgame. The Wolves proceeded to hit a 3-pointer with :41 seconds left and then scoring on a driving layup as the clock ran out to tie the game and send it into overtime. The Hawks were a poor 3/10 from the FT line in the 4th quarter to allow the Wolves to get back into the game. In OT the Wolves pulled away hitting 8/10 fro the FT line. The final score was 64-61 as the Wolves won on the road.

The Hawks were lead by Devon Reininger with 12 points, 4 steals and 4 assists. Stevie Harvey also added 12 points and 3 assists. Chase Krueger chipped in with 11 points, 9 rebounds and 3 steals. Sam Carigon collected 10 rebounds. The Wolves were lead by Carlos Amoros and Jacob Traylor each had 18 points. Nicholas Staten added 12 points.

Game Recap

On a snowy Friday night the Forest Hills Eastern Hawks traveled across the district to take on their rival Forest Hills Northern. The Hawks and Huskies battled earlier in the season with the Hawks taking the victory. The Huskies were looking for some revenge on this mid-winter break Friday night. The Hawks jumped out early on the Huskies and held a 7-2 lead early in the first quarter. But the Huskies battled back with the help from a 10-0 run and lead 12-11 going into the 2nd period. The game was back and forth most of the night and in the 2nd quarter the Hawks outscored the Huskies 12-10 to lead 23-22 at the half.

In the 3rd stanza the Hawks outscored the Huskies 15-14 and lead 38-36 after the period. Moving into the 4th quarter the Hawks built another 5 point lead, their largest of the game. The Huskies had a player technical foul called and then followed that up with a bench technical foul as well. The Hawks converted all 4 free throws but could not convert the possession into a bucket. The Huskies outscored the Hawks 11-9 in the 4th period while going 5/6 from the line. The Hawks were a meager 5/10 from the line in the quarter and struggled all night at the charity stripe. With the game tied at 47 – 47 the Hawks held the ball for over a minute and called timeout with :16.6 on the clock. They then in-bounded the ball and ran the clock down to just a few seconds to get a good look and the final shot. But the shot was wide of the mark and the game went into overtime.

In the overtime the Hawks proceeded to commit turnovers on their first 3 possessions giving the ball back to Northern. The Huskies took advantage of those miscues and built a lead. The Huskies were a very solid 11/13 from the line in overtime and pulled away in the end to take the win 60-56. The Hawks ended up shooting 14/25=56% from the foul line. While the Huskies were a cool 21/26=81% and that was the difference in the game. The Hawks also committed many unforced turnovers during the night that lead to many empty possessions in a disappointing loss.

The Hawks were lead in the game by Devon Reininger with 17 points. Stevie Harvey added 10 points and 7 rebounds. The Huskies were lead by Mike Hawkins with 19 points as he was 7/7 from the line. John Atem chipped in with 12.

The Hawks are off next week until Friday night when they head back home to take on the talented Wyoming Wolves team in another OK Bronze clash. Tip off for the boys game will be 5:30 pm.

Game Recap

Forest Hills Eastern traveled across town to the west side to take on the Union Red Hawks in a non-conference tilt. The Red Hawks are from the OK Black conference while the Eastern Hawks are out of the OK Bronze. The game was played at Union High School in front of a sparse Tuesday night crowd.

In the first quarter Eastern jumped out to a quick 8-1 lead on the strength of some strong shooting. But the Red Hawks fought back to take a 13-12 lead after the first period. Josh Karafa lead the Hawks hitting two 3-pointers giving him 6 points on the quarter. The Red Hawks were lead by DeQuaveon Stuckey with 8 points. In the 2nd quarter the Red Hawks continued their scoring run but had some foul trouble and had to find scoring other than Stuckey. They did just that as Keidron Davis tallied 7 points and Ramiro Barajas hit two 3-pointers off the bench. But the Hawks hung tough and stayed with the Red Hawks on their home court getting scoring from 7 different players in the quarter. Chase Krueger lead the way with 5 points in the 2nd quarter. The Red Hawks lead at the half 33-31.

Both teams came out and battled in the 3rd period but not many shots were falling for either team. Each team scored 11 in the quarter and Hawks remained down by a bucket 44-42 heading into the final stanza. In the 3rd the Hawks were lead by Stephen Glover with 8 points and some very strong play in the post. The Red Hawks got 7 points from Jeffery Lee. The final period was a see-saw battle for most of the quarter until the Eastern Hawks grabbed command of the game at the line. The Hawks made their first 14 free throws in the 4th quarter and outscored the Red Hawks 23-17 to seal the win 65-61. The Hawks shot a scorching 15/16=94% in the 4th quarter and finished 20/25=80% for the game. Union was only 4/10=40% from the free throw line for the game.

Eastern was lead by Stephen Glover with a double-double (15 points / 10 rebounds). Steven Harvey (13 points / 5 rebounds) and Josh Karafa (13 points / 7 rebounds) also had strong games for the Hawks. The Read Hawks had 3 players in double figures with Keidron Davis (14 points), DeQuaveon Stuckey (13 points) and Jeffery Lee (11 points) leading the way for Union.

The Forest Hill Eastern now travel to face their cross-district rivals Friday night at Forest Hills Northern in an OK Bronze rematch from earlier this year. The Hawks beat the Huskies in that match up and the Huskies will be looking for some revenge in the rematch.

Game Recap

The Forest Hills Eastern Hawks entertained the Red Hawks from Cedar Springs. The game started out slow with little offense from both sides. The score after the first quarter was 10-7. There were 12 fouls in the first period and the Red Hawks were in the bonus early. Cedar came out firing to start the 2nd and took a 14-10 lead. Eastern rallied back to take a 19-16 lead. Some energy off the bench from Grant Trisch,Drew Pawlanta, Keegan Golder, Luke Wilkerson and Connor Culhane sparked the run. However Cedar responded again to take a 23-21 lead. A buzzer beater by the Hawks tied the game at 23 at the half. Chase Kreuger lead the Hawks with 9 points and 6 rebounds in the half.

In the second half the lead changed hands numerous times. Both teams battled back and forth through the 3rd quarter and Cedar lead 38-37 after 3 quarters of play. To start the 4th quarter the Hawks ran out to a 46-41 lead. The Hawks called a timeout with 4:24 left in the game and came out of the timeout but could not convert their shot. Cedar scored on their next possession to make it a 46-43 ballgame. The Hawks and the Red Hawks exchanged buckets making it 48-45 with only 1:19 left. Two clutch FT’s for the Hawks and a quick bucket by Cedar made it 50-47. However the Hawks were clutch at the free throw line down the stretch (11/14=79%) and held on for their 2nd OK Bronze conference win 56-49!

The Eastern Hawks were lead by Chase Kreuger with 17 points 8 rebounds. Devon Reininger and Josh Karafa each added 12 points and Steven Harvey had 11 points and 7 rebounds. Cedar was lead by Je’len Jackson and Brad Brechting each had 12 points.

The Forest Hills Eastern Hawks traveled to the west side to take on the Falcons of West Catholic. This was an old rivalry from when the Falcons were in the OK Bronze. The Falcons jumped out early to a 15-10 lead after the 1st period. Steven Harvey scored 6 points in the quarter for the Hawks. FHE then roared back with a 19 point quarter and the game was tied 29-29 at the half. Harvey leading the way with 10 points and Chase Krueger added 5 points in the half. The Falcons were very balanced in their scoring with 6 players having 4 or 5 points each. The first half was cleanly played as both teams only had 4 fouls each and the Hawks only had 4 turnovers for the half.

The Hawks cranked up the defense in the 3rd quarter holding the Falcons to only 9 points. They dropped in 12 themselves to lead after 3 quarters 41-38. The Hawks entered the double bonus with over 4 minutes left in the 4th quarter and lived at the line for most of the quarter scoring 10 straight of their points at the charity stripe. However with the game tied at 52-52 with :30.8 on the clock West Catholic called timeout. The Hawks denied the inbounds and the Falcons had to burn another timeout. The Falcons were then able to get the ball in bounds and ran the clock down to :08.3 and called their last timeout. The Falcons in bounded the ball and got a shot off but it missed the mark and we went to overtime.

The Falcons scored first to go up 54-52 in the overtime. The Hawks turned the ball over twice on their first two possessions and the Falcons converted a 3 pointer to lead 57-52. The Hawks could not buy a bucket in the overtime and the Falcons posted 10 points to make the final 62-54. Steven Harvey lead the Hawks with 17 points. Chase Kreuger added 14 points. The Falcons had 4 players in double figures lead by Zach Zenner with 13 points.

Game Recap

The Hawks headed to Northview to challenge the Wildcats in an OK Bronze battle. The Wildcats jumped out early and grabbed a 17-8 lead after the first period. The game was delayed as the clock controller had to be replaced. The 2nd quarter was even as both teams put up 19 points and the Wildcats lead at the half 36-27. Stevie Harvey lead the Hawks with 7 in the half. Sophomore Grant Trisch, playing in his first varsity game, chipped in with 4 points and some energy off the bench.

To start the 3rd quarter quarter the Wildcats made a 10-4 run and ended the quarter out scoring the Hawks 19-10 and leading 55-37. The Hawks out scored the Wildcats 21-20 in the fourth to make the final 75-58.

Steve Harvey lead the Hawks with 14 points. Stephen Glover added 12 and Devon Reininger had 11. The Wildcats were lead by Connor Crawford with 17 points and Gabe Baric added 16.
