Game Recap

The Hawks hosted the highly touted Grand Rapids Christian Eagles on Friday night at Hawks Stadium. If was a warm but rainy night for the Hawks 2017 Homecoming game. GR Christian came into the game at 5-1 and coming off a loss last week to East Grand Rapids. The Hawks were 3-3 and had a 2-game winning streak after beating TK and Wayland in their last two games.

The game was close early as the Hawks were able to stay with the high flying Eagles through the first half. In the end the Eagles were able to pull away and post a 45-20 victory to spoil the Hawks Homecoming.

The Hawks were lead on offense by Caden Peters who rushed for 122 yards on 26 carries. Peters also had a TD reception for 20 yards. Ben Armbrester rolled up 154 total all-purpose yards. Bennett VanSolkema threw for 180 yards and 2 TD’s on 10-26 passing. He also had 2 interceptions on the night. Ben Ewing caught 3 passes for 75 yards and 1 TD. Sam Dzjiuba kicked two FG’s from 34 and 42 yards out.

The Hawks defense was lead by Justin Rozeboom with 6.5 tackles. Scott Massie had another solid game with 6.0 tackles, 1 for loss and a big sack of the Eagles QB. Cray Brenner also added 6.0 tackles and Armbrester and Kade Kreuger chipped in with 5.5 tackles each. Mason Macdonald grabbed an interception and returned it 35 yards.

The Hawks now head out on the road for their final two regular season games. Next week they play at East Grand Rapids. The Hawks record now falls to 3-4 overall and 2-2 in the OK Gold conference. The Hawks will need to both to win both of their last two road games to have an outside chance at making the year end playoffs.
