The boys swimming and diving team won their annual Forest Hills Invitational as they amassed 640 points to 2nd place Midland Dow 605 pts. Forest Hills accounted for 3 of the 4 new pool records set as junior Henry Schutte set records in the 50-yard Freestyle (:20.96), lead off the 400 yd. Freestyle Relay and set a new pool record in the 100 yd. Freestyle (:45.91) and the 400-yd. free relay team of Schutte, Matt Wilson, Jonathan Bloedow and Charlie Krug touching in 3:13.44 breaking the old record of 3:15.27.
Forest Hills divers helped to set the tone for the meet as all 7 divers earned top 16 place honors. Led by Ryan Talbot (jr) 3rd place with a season best score of 340.05 pts and he was followed by teammate Chance Spencer (sr) 6th place (267.20), with Flynn Lyon (fr) 264.75 and Sam Musgraves (fr) 8th place (263.05) round out the top 8.
Forest Hills then took the top spot by winning the 200 yd. Medley relay (Jonathan Bloedow, Matt Wilson, Henry Schutte, Charlie Krug touched in a new meet record time of 1:39.65. FH “B” team placed 5th (Andrew Zhang, Paul Jeong, CJ Hier, Kaz Iwatsu).
In the 200 yd. Freestyle, Forest Hills was led by senior Seth Fagen, sr (2nd– 1:50.77), Avery Letourneau, fr (5th), Luke Asselin, fr (11th), Tyler Perschbacker, jr (14th), and Josh Stevenson (15th).
CJ Hier, soph, led the 200 yd Individual Medley group finishing 2nd (2:06.98) and teammate Adam Sands, jr (5th– 2:09.68), Andrew Zhang, fr (11th– 2:18.23).
The 50 yd. Freestyle nearly saw Forest Hills sweep the event away as they placed 7 in the top 16. Led by Henry Schutte’s new pool record (:20.96) the team then had Jonathan Bloedow, sr (3rd– :22.71), Charlie Krug, jr (5th– 22.84), Daniel Bloedow, soph (7th– 23.32), Kaz Iwatsu, jr (9th– 23.78), Max VanDoorne, jr (12th– 24.56) and Jackson Hotchkiss, sr (16th– 25.71).
Next event was the 100 yd. Butterfly, Matt Wilson, sr finished 4th (:55.50) with Adam Sands (5th– :57.67), Kaz Iwatsu (6th– 58.20), and Kyle Carter (12th– 1:06.03).
The 100 yd. Freestyle was another strong event for Forest Hills as Jonathan Bloedow was 2nd (:49.73), Seth Fagen (4th– :51.24), Avery LeTourneau (6th– :52.48), Zach Stevenson, jr (9th– :54.25), Luke Asselin (13th– :55.95), Andrew Zhang and Tyler Perschbacher tied for 14th– :56.24.
Matt Wilson dove back into the pool after a short rest and placed 2nd in the 500 yd. Freestyle (4:56.50) and Charlie Krug (5th– 5:12.00), Daniel Bloedow (7th– 5:19.77), Paul Jeong, sr (9th– 5:30.79) and Jon Millar, fr placed 16th (6:21.95).
The 200 yd. Freestyle relay teams picked up 3rd and 6th place respectively as the “A” team (Daniel Bloedow, CJ Hier, Kaz Iwasu, and Adam Sands) touched in 1:36.16 and followed by the “B” team (Seth Fagen, Max VanDoorne, Luke Asselin and Avery LeTournwau) at 1:37.12.
Henry Schutte placed 2nd in the 100 yd. Backstroke (:23.87) with Zach Stevenson (9th– 1:03.33) and Josh Stevenson (14th– 1:07.72)).
CJ Heir placed third in the 100 yd. Breaststroke (1:06.59) and Paul Jeong was 12th (1:13.34), Patrick Lintner, soph was 14th (1:17.37) and Jackson Hotchkiss placed 15th (1:19.66).
Forest Hills wrapped up the meet and victory by setting a new pool record going 3:13.44 and followed by the “B” team of Daniel Bloedow, Adam Sands, Avery LeTourneau and Seth Fagen (3:30.33).
“We really enjoyed this team victory today.” Said Coach Dennis Neat. “The hours that we put in during the past few weeks shows us how well we’re are performing while the body is tired from training every day. They’re ready to do some racing and we’ll have plenty of that over the next several weeks.”
The team will face Northview on Tuesday, January 9 at the Aquatic Center. Meet starts at 6:30 pm.
