Hawks News · Forest Hills Boys Swimming and Diving Places 7th at State D-1 Championship Finals

The Forest Hills boys swimming and diving team finished in 7th place at the Division 1 State Swimming & Diving Championships held at Oakland University. The team placed 8th at last year;s meet. Lead by two-event champion Henry Schutte (50 Free and 100 Free), Forest Hills used it’s team depth to challenge with 4 “A” finals and 5 “B” finals.

Leading off was the 200 yd. Medley Relay team of Dakota Weinman, Matt Wilson, Jonathan Bloedow, Henry Schutte. They placed 5th overall (1:34.21)  to out touch Northville, Holland West Ottawa and Detroit Catholic Central. Their overall time is good enough for high school All-American Consideration honors.                                         (Relay splits were 25.08, 26.72, 22.52, 19.89)

The teams next event was the 50 yard Freestyle. Sophomore Henry Schutte was the events top seed after Friday’s preliminaries and on Saturday touched first in school record time of :20.38. Henry’s time is good enough to earn him All-American Honors.

In the 100 yd. Butterfly, junior Jonathan Bloedow finished in 6th place (:50.93). Jonathan’s prelim time of :50.79 was a new FHN school record).

The team’s next race was the 100 yd. Freestyle where Henry was seeded 4th going into Saturday’s finals. At the finish, Henry shocked the field as he out touched everyone for his 2nd State championship title going :45.27 (All-American consideration honors).

The 200 yd. Freestyle Relay was the team’s next event at the Championship Meet. The team of Schutte, Mitch Miller, Kaz Iwatsu, Charlie Krug has placed 14th in the preliminaries. In the finals, they placed 14th going 1:28.20 (21.15, 22.69, 22.54, 21.82).

Forest Hills displayed some depth in the 100 yd. Backstroke with 3 swimmers (Jonathan Bloedow, Dakota Weinman, Seth Fagen) in the “B” final. Led by Jonathan Bloedow touched in 10th place overall :52.67 (new FHN school record) followed  Dakota Weinman, 11th, :52.89 (new FHC school record) and Seth Fagen, 16th, (:54.58).

In the final event of the meet, the 400 yd Freestyle Relay, Forest Hills team of Charlie Krug, Jonathan Bloedow, Dakota Weinman, Matt Wilson teamed up to place 11th with a team season best relay time of 3:12.13 (49.24, 47.98, 48.42, 46.49).

“It’s been a wonderful season for this group. They worked hard all year and trusted some new training concepts and ideas and that trust paid off this weekend” said head coach Dennis Neat. “We had to overcame some tough pysche sheet seeds but raced extremely well on Friday to get into position for Saturday. They showed each other support and the team worked together all year and it turned into a wonderful weekend for everyone to remember.”
