The Forest Hills boys swimming and diving team captured it’s 1st conference championship title in 5 years and teams 6th trophy over the past 12 years. Despite winning only 3 events, Forest Hills used it’s team depth to beat defending conference champion East Grand Rapids 481-471 in the OK Greater Grand Rapids Conference championships meet held at East Grand Rapids.
Forest Hills was lead by freshman Henry Schutte (FHN) who capture first place in the 50 yd. (:21.04) setting both the pool and conference record and also the 100 yd. Freestyle (:46.11) which was another conference record. Karsen Diepholz, sr (FHC) took first place in the 500 yd. Freestyle (4:41.35) which was another conference record.
The meet started of with Forest Hills finishing 3rd in the 200 yd. Medley Realy (Dakota Weinman, Matt Wilson, Jonathan Bloedow, Nick Postma) finishing in a time of 1:39.32.
In the 200 yd. Freestyle, Karsen Diepholz finished 2nd (1:44.55) with Charlie Krug, fr (FHC) touching in a tie for 6th (1:49.32), Scott Anthony, sr (FHN) taking 9th (1:49.70) and Nick Woodard, sr (FHC) finishing 13th (1:55.56).
The 200 yd. Individual Medley saw Forest Hills finish 3-4-7-12 as Dakota Weinman, jr (FHC) taking top team honors with a 3rd place (2:00.45) followed by Matt Wilson, so (FHC) 2:01.72, Adam Sands, fr (FHE) touching 7th (2:06.02) and Brandon Lee, jr (FHE) in 12th place (2:10.79).
In the 50 yd. Freestyle, Henry Schutte blazed through the water touching 1st in :21.04 earning high school all-american consideration honors, Nick Postma, sr (FHC) came in 4th (:21.95), Kazuya Iwatsu, fr (FHC) was 10th (:23.25) and Ethan Palmer, sr (FHC) was 13th (:24.24)
In the diving event, Gabe Messner finished 8th and qualified for the MHSAA Regional tournament with a score of 305.00.
Youth was on displayed for “Hills” in the 100 yd. Butterfly with a 2-3-4-7 finish. Lead by Sophomore Jonathan Bloedow (FHN) who touched in 2nd place with a time of (:52.90) and was followed by freshman Charlie Krug (:55.48), sophomore Seth Fagen was 4th (:55.95) and freshman Adam Sands came in 7th (:56.99).
In the 100 yd. Freestyle, Henry Schutte swept the sprint titles with his 1st place in a time of :46.11. He was followed by Nick Postma, 6th (:49.39), Scott Anthony was 11th (:50.14) and Grayam Hotchkiss,sr (FHN) came in 14th (:54.54).
Karsen Diepholz broke the conference record in the 500 yd. Freestyle touching 1st in a time of 4:41.35. He was followed by Nick Woodard, sr (FHC) in 8th (5:12.09), Isaac Vander Molen, jr (FHN) in 13th (5:27.04) and freshman Zach Stevenson (FHC) placed 15th (5:28.74).
The 200 yd. Freestyle Relay team (Henry Schutte, Charlie Krug, Karsen Diepholz and Nick Postma) finished in 2nd place a mere .28 behind the event winner going 1:27.19.
The Backstroke event gave Forest Hills some more big team points as they finished 2-3-5-11 with Jonathan Bloedow touching 2nd (:54.68), Dakota Weinman in 3rd (:54.76), Seth Fagen in 5th (:56.34) and Mark Gajewski, sr (FHN) finishing 11th (:59.81).
In the 100 yd. Breaststroke, “Hills” continued to pick up big points as they had a 4-7-8-13 finish. Matt Wison lead the attack touching 4th (1:02.34), Kazuya Iwatsu came in 7th (1:03.95) followed by Brandon Lee in 8th (1:05.25) and Grayam Hotchkiss was 13th in a time of 1:09.02.
The meets final event, the 400 yd. Freestyle Relay, the team of Jonathan Bloedow, Karsen Diepholz, Charlie Krug and Henry Schutte, turned in another exciting race as the “Hills” taking 2nd place with a time of 3:13.59.
Next on the Forest Hills schedule are the Diving Regionals at East Kentwood (Thursday, March 3rd) and the State Championship meet to be held at Holland Aquatic Center on Friday, March 11th and Saturday, March 12th.
